Barstool Sports Founder Dave Portnoy Rescued by Coast Guard After Boat Incident off Nantucket
Barstool Sports‘ founder, Dave Portnoy, had a harrowing experience off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts, where he was rescued by the Coast Guard after his boat incident.
On Monday, in a video shared on social media, Portnoy, also known as Captain Dave, detailed how he found himself in a perilous situation at sea with no power, radio, or anchor amid heavy winds.
The Coast Guard confirmed that Portnoy’s vessel had broken free from its mooring in Nantucket Harbor and was adrift. Coast Guard members, who were on a training exercise, swiftly responded and towed the boat back to safety.
Portnoy described the intense moments as he tried to navigate the turbulent waters, resorting to shooting a distress flare into the sky to attract attention.
Fortunately, a Good Samaritan boater came to his rescue, using their radio to call for assistance and ensuring that Portnoy was brought back to shore unharmed.
Reflecting on the ordeal, Portnoy humorously pondered whether he would venture out on a boat again, hinting at a potential reluctance to repeat the experience.
In May, the U.S. Coast Guard released its 2023 statistics on recreational boating incidents, highlighting a decrease in fatalities and incidents for the year.
Portnoy’s sudden misadventure serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of the sea and the importance of safety protocols while out on the water.
As the founder of Barstool Sports, a prominent sports and pop culture media company, Portnoy’s escapade has captured the attention of fans and followers, showcasing a different side to the larger-than-life persona known to many.
