Bayern Munich Set for Bundesliga Derby Against FC Augsburg Amidst Injury Concerns
Bayern Munich is preparing for their upcoming Bundesliga clash against FC Augsburg with several key players sidelined due to injury. The derby is set to take place at the Allianz Arena, marking the 11th league game of the season for both teams.
Bayern’s head coach, Vincent Kompany, acknowledged the challenge posed by Augsburg, emphasizing that the opposition has proven difficult in the past. «Augsburg has always been a difficult game for Bayern recently. It’s a derby. They have developed very well,» Kompany noted. He also mentioned Augsburg coach Jess Thorup, whom he knows from Belgium.
However, Bayern will face Augsburg without João Palhinha and Mathys Tel, who are both out due to injuries sustained during international duties. Kompany expressed his frustration with the timing of the injuries but remained optimistic about the depth of his squad. «We remain confident in the squad that we will get the results,» he said.
Kompany also commented on the potential return of defender Aleksandar Pavlović, who is recovering from a shoulder injury. «For me, it’s looking good for Aleksandar Pavlović. He’s trained with us sometimes, but it’s a shoulder injury, so it’s mainly about duels. We have to give it time,» Kompany stated.
The availability of veteran Thomas Müller remains uncertain, with Kompany remarking on his importance both on and off the field. «Thomas’ role is incredibly important for us. There are still a lot of games to come — whether that’s tomorrow or later — he will remain important,» said the coach. He also praised the form of wingers Leroy Sané, Michael Olise, Serge Gnabry, and Kingsley Coman.
Concerns over goalkeeper Manuel Neuer arose after he had to leave training abruptly, but Kompany remained hopeful about his participation in the game. «We assume that Manu will be able to play tomorrow. But if he didn’t make it, then it will be Daniel Peretz,» he added.
Augsburg, currently in the lower half of the Bundesliga table, will aim to continue their recent unbeaten run. The team has been able to collect eight points from their last four games, signalling a potential threat to Bayern’s unbeaten home record this season.
The match will test Bayern’s defense in the absence of key defensive players, with Kompany expected to rely on Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka in the midfield. Augsburg, on their part, will miss some players due to long-term injuries, including Lukas Petkov due to long COVID.
