Representatives of all the state cricket associations affiliated with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gathered for a productive and engaging meeting at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. The BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, emphasized the importance of collaboration and exchange of ideas with the key stakeholders, highlighting the exemplary decision made by the Mumbai Cricket Association to increase match fees for Ranji Trophy players.
While some state units expressed initial interest in adopting a similar approach, others called for further deliberation before implementing such changes beyond the Ranji Trophy teams. This discussion is expected to continue during future meetings of the apex council, ensuring a thorough evaluation before any decisions are finalized.
Feedback was also sought on the upcoming changes in the domestic cricket structure for the 2024-25 season, proposed by notable figures such as VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid, and Ajit Agarkar. The new format will undergo a review after a year of implementation to assess its efficacy and impact on the game.
Updates on significant developments, including the new National Cricket Academy (NCA) campus in Bengaluru, establishment of indoor academies in regions like the North-Eastern states, Patna, and Jammu & Kashmir, were shared with the state associations. The BCCI has been actively working towards enhancing facilities and promoting cricket in various regions across the country.
In a letter addressed to Dr B. Rajender, the Principal Secretary of Sports, Jay Shah highlighted the collaborative efforts between the Bihar Cricket Association and the Government of Bihar to uplift facilities at the Moin-ul Haq Stadium in Patna. This initiative reflects the commitment of the BCCI towards overall development of cricket infrastructure in the region.
Furthermore, Shah informed the members about the Board’s plan to review the recent changes in domestic tournaments, such as the removal of the zonal system in the Duleep Trophy and the elimination of the toss in U-23 matches. These modifications will be evaluated at the conclusion of the season to gauge their success and suitability for the future.
