Bears Lock Down DJ Moore with Historic Contract Extension
The Chicago Bears made headlines when they announced a massive contract extension for wide receiver DJ Moore. The deal, worth four years and a whopping $110 million, is now the largest in the team’s history, according to reports from ESPN.
Moore’s agents revealed that this deal includes $82.6 million guaranteed, making it one of the biggest guarantees for a wide receiver in NFL history. Only two players, Justin Jefferson and A.J. Brown, have higher guarantees attached to their contracts.
At just 27 years old, Moore already has a strong track record. His previous contract with the Carolina Panthers had two years left, and before this extension, he was set to hit free agency in 2026. Now, he’ll stay with the Bears through the 2029 season.
Moore was a key player for the Bears last season, racking up impressive stats. He led the team with 96 receptions and 1,364 receiving yards, along with eight touchdowns. This accounted for almost 40% of the Bears’ total receiving yards in 2023, a significant contribution.
He’s already made a name for himself in Chicago after being acquired in a trade that sent the No. 1 overall pick to the Panthers. The Bears’ general manager, Ryan Poles, couldn’t have been happier to land Moore and had expressed concerns about whether he’d still be available if they delayed the trade.
In his first year with the Bears, Moore achieved some career highs, placing him among the top receivers in franchise history. His performance was impressive enough that he ranks seventh in NFL receiving yards since he entered the league in 2018, despite having played with a dozen different quarterbacks.
Head coach Matt Eberflus praised Moore’s work ethic and toughness, calling him a vital part of their offense and a great teammate. The Bears’ decision to extend Moore comes earlier than usual for the team under Poles, who has previously taken his time with contract negotiations.
With this extension, Poles noted that he wants to be intentional about the order of negotiations. By signing Moore now, the team secures a strong offensive core, including first-round draft picks and a solid starting quarterback.
This summer has seen several wide receivers land big contracts, and Moore’s new deal places him right among the top earners in the league.
