Bears Reserves Shine in Preseason Finale Against Chiefs
The Chicago Bears will face the Kansas City Chiefs in their preseason finale tonight, with most starters held out of the game, allowing reserves an opportunity to showcase their talent.
Defensive player Hardy has been a standout this preseason, leading the NFL with 3.5 sacks and ranking first on the Bears with 10 tackles. Defensive coordinator Eric Washington praised Hardy’s hustle and effectiveness in critical situations, indicating his impressive production could solidify a roster spot.
Hardy was selected by the Rams in the seventh round of the 2022 draft and after a season with limited playing time, he made the Bears practice squad last year. A strong performance in the upcoming game could help him earn a role in the Bears’ defensive rotation.
Robinson, another player vying for a position, recently improved his physique, arriving at training camp weighing 273 pounds with 8% body fat. He noted that the added muscle has enhanced his performance on the field. Robinson is competing for a spot at defensive end alongside Hardy and other players behind veterans Montez Sweat and Walker.
In addition to the defensive standouts, tight end Sweeney has excelled during this preseason as both a blocker and receiver, leading the Bears with six receptions for 75 yards and one touchdown. Sweeney was drafted by the Bills in 2019 and has had a challenging career, marked by injuries and health issues that affected his playing time.
The Bears also invested in a talented punter, selecting him in the fourth round this year, the highest selection for a punter since 2019. However, he is not alone on the roster, as Waitman has proven his capabilities as well, averaging 46.9 yards per punt in his previous seasons.
