Veteran TSN broadcaster Darren ‘Dutch’ Dutchyshen, a renowned figure in Canadian sports journalism, has sadly passed away at the age of 57. His family announced that he was surrounded by loved ones at the time of his passing.

Known for his infectious energy and captivating delivery, Dutchyshen began his career at TSN in 1995, holding various hosting roles, including the iconic late-night editions of SportsCentre.

Stewart Johnston, senior vice president of sales and sports at Bell Media, described Dutchyshen as a legend in Canadian sports broadcasting and an integral part of the TSN family for over three decades. He commended Dutchyshen’s humor, charisma, and unwavering connection with viewers.

Aside from his on-screen presence, Dutchyshen was candid about his battle with prostate cancer, which led him to take a hiatus from anchoring SportsCentre in 2021. Despite his illness, Dutchyshen returned to his hosting duties to continue doing what he loved.

Born in Regina, Dutchyshen kickstarted his broadcasting journey in Saskatoon and later moved to IMTV in Dauphin, Manitoba, before becoming the face of ITV’s Sports Night in Edmonton. This paved the way for his prominent role at TSN.

Dutchyshen’s family shared that he passed away with his humor intact, cracking jokes until his final moments, leaving behind a legacy as a one-of-a-kind broadcaster and human being.

TSN announced plans to pay tribute to Dutchyshen in the coming days, inviting close friends and colleagues to share anecdotes highlighting his character and impactful career.
