Big Wins at Kerala State Film Awards 2023
The Kerala State Film Awards for 2023 were announced recently, and there were some exciting wins! The film ‘Aadujeevitham‘ (translated as ‘Goat Life‘) took the spotlight, snagging multiple awards, including Best Director for Blessy and Best Actor for Prithviraj Sukumaran, who portrayed Najeeb.
In another big win, the movie ‘Kaathal the Core‘, which dives into the challenges faced by the gay community, was awarded Best Film. Directed by Jeo Baby, this film brought an important conversation to mainstream cinema.
Notably, ‘Aadujeevitham’ was not just a hit among critics but also won the title of Best Popular Film with artistic quality, showcasing its broad appeal.
In the acting categories, Urvashi and Beena R Chandran shared the Best Actress award for their performances in ‘Ullozhukku’ and ‘Thadavu’ respectively, highlighting strong female storytelling in films this year.
There were quite a few films in the running, including hits like Mohanlal’s ‘Neru‘ and Suresh Gopi’s ‘Garudan’, alongside others like ‘Pookkalam’, ‘Gaganachari’, and ’18-Plus’. Each contender brought something unique to the table.
The event further recognized various talents with awards for Best Cinematography, Sound Design, and the Debut Director award for Fasil Razaq, among many others, indicating a vibrant film community thriving in Kerala.
