Billie Eilish Skips Met Gala to Focus on Album Release and Tour Preparation
After opting out of this year’s Met Gala, Billie Eilish is fully immersed in preparing for the release of her upcoming album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, scheduled to drop on May 17th. Despite missing the star-studded event, the singer recently announced album listening parties set to take place in both New York and Los Angeles, showcasing her enthusiasm for the new project. Additionally, Eilish is gearing up for an imminent tour, slated to kick off in September.
While absent from this year’s Met Gala red carpet, the Grammy-winning artist did make her debut at the event back in 2021. Serving as a co-chair for that year’s theme, “In America: A Lexicon Of Fashion,” Eilish left a lasting impression with her choice of attire, wearing a stunning nude tulle gown by Oscar de la Renta and donning a platinum blonde bob reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe.
At the subsequent Met Galas, Eilish continued to captivate with her fashion choices. In 2022, she opted for a custom tan corset dress by Gucci in line with the “Gilded Glamour” theme, while in the following year, she stunned in another corset dress, this time by Simone Rocha, fitting the night’s “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty” theme.
Reflecting on her inaugural Met Gala experience during an interview with Howard Stern in 2021, Eilish described the event as a unique gathering of celebrities. She remarked, “It’s nuts. It’s famous people famous people-ing. That’s what it is.” Despite the grandeur of the occasion, she shared insights on the humanizing nature of the event, observing how individuals, regardless of their fame, remain regular people at heart.
This year would have marked Eilish’s fourth appearance at the Met Gala, a notable absence that left fans eagerly anticipating her presence. Although her whereabouts during the event remain undisclosed, the artist engaged with fans online and even provided a surprise link to a listening party for her upcoming album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, showcasing her dedication to her musical endeavors.
