BJP Reprimands Kangana Ranaut Over Controversial Remarks on Farmers’ Protest
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) issued a reprimand to actor and Member of Parliament, Kangana Ranaut, regarding her statements about the farmers’ protests in India. In an official statement, the BJP clarified that Ms. Ranaut’s comments do not reflect the party’s stance on the matter.
The BJP emphasized that Ms. Ranaut is not authorized to speak on policy issues related to the party and has been directed to refrain from making such statements in the future. The party reiterated its commitment to social harmony, aligning with its motto of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas Aur Sabka Prayaas.”
Earlier in the day, Ranaut sparked controversy with remarks suggesting that the farmers’ protests could have resulted in a situation analogous to the unrest in Bangladesh. In a video shared on her X account, she asserted, «Bangladesh-like anarchy could have happened in India also like in the name of Farmers protest. Outside forces are planning to destroy us with the help of insiders.»
This incident is not the first instance of Kangana Ranaut generating backlash related to farmers’ protests. During the 2020-21 protests against the now repealed farm laws, she made headlines for incorrectly identifying an elderly woman as Bilkis Bano, who was involved in the Shaheen Bagh protests. Ranaut claimed the woman was participating in protests for a monetary incentive.
Furthermore, following her election as an MP from Himachal Pradesh‘s Mandi district, Ranaut encountered a situation at Chandigarh airport where a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable noted that her mother was among the farmers protesting against those laws, which have since been repealed.
