The Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival in Los Angeles, known for its eclectic lineup and surprise performances, saw an unexpected collaboration that left fans buzzing with excitement. On November 17, Jennie, a member of the globally acclaimed K-pop group BLACKPINK, made a surprise appearance on stage with Matt Champion, a prominent indie artist, shocking attendees with an unexpected performance.

Matt Champion, who has garnered a substantial following in the indie music scene across the United States, was initially scheduled to perform solo. However, the atmosphere reached another level when Jennie joined him for a live rendition of their collaboration «Slow Motion.» The song, released earlier this year, became a favorite among fans despite minimal promotional efforts.

Fans were thrilled to see Jennie and Champion perform together, harmonizing through their hit track and sharing a warmth that extended beyond their professional partnership. The surprise collaboration was a highlight of the festival, generating significant chatter among attendees and on social media platforms.

«Slow Motion,» which features Jennie’s vocals coupled with Champion’s dynamic rap, debuted on March 8, 2024, and quickly took off on Spotify, drawing 1.21 million streams within 24 hours. The track surpassed records to become the best debut by a Korean soloist on the platform at that time.

Jennie’s appearance at the carnival follows her recent solo release, «Mantra,» a dance anthem that has been celebrated for its bold lyrics and energetic beat. Her new single has topped several music charts, further establishing her prowess as a solo artist apart from her group activities with BLACKPINK. Jennie is reportedly working on a new album, with plans to engage in group activities with BLACKPINK again in 2025.

The Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival itself was a weekend affair held at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium and featured performances from a range of artists, including Playboi Carti, Sexyy Red, Doechii, Erykah Badu, and many more. Other highlights included a set by Tyler, The Creator, promoting his latest album «Chromakopia,» and a teaser for the long-anticipated posthumous release of Mac Miller‘s album, recorded over a decade ago.
