Blaze Erupts in Staines Tower Block Under Construction
Firefighters in Surrey have successfully tackled a significant blaze that erupted in a tower block under construction in Staines town center. The fire, which started at the top of the 14-storey building, was reportedly a result of welding works being carried out on the roof.
The Surrey Fire and Rescue Service responded promptly, dispatching eight fire engines to the scene in Staines town center near the Tothill multi-storey car park on Elmsleigh Road. They have been on-site since 12:35 BST, implementing road closures on Thames Street, Clarence Street, and Staines bridge.
Surrey Police and additional fire crews from London and Berkshire were also present, aiding in the operation to control the fire that broke out in the unoccupied building being developed by Fairview New Homes.
Emergency services confirmed that everyone was safely accounted for, with paramedics treating four individuals for smoke inhalation, one of whom was taken to hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang in the area, with thick plumes of black smoke billowing from the high-rise tower, creating a scene visible from various parts of Staines and beyond.
Despite the fire being under control, firefighters anticipate remaining at the site for an extended period to ensure complete extinguishment and safety measures.
