Blue Jays Make Roster Move, Designate Cavan Biggio for Assignment
The Toronto Blue Jays have made a significant roster move ahead of their upcoming game, announcing the designation of utility man Cavan Biggio. This decision comes as the team looks to bolster its offensive capabilities and inject new talent into the lineup.
Manager John Schneider expressed appreciation for Biggio’s contributions to the team over the past six years, wishing him the best in his future endeavors. However, the need for more consistent offensive production prompted the Jays to make the tough decision to designate Biggio for assignment.
Stepping into the active roster in place of Biggio is infielder Spencer Horwitz, who has been recalled from the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons. Horwitz has shown promising performance in Triple-A this season, boasting a .335 average with four home runs and 38 RBIs in 57 games.
At just 26 years old, Horwitz brings a fresh energy and skill set to the team. While he played in 15 games at the Major League level last season, his current form in the minors suggests he could make a significant impact with the Jays this time around.
On the other hand, Cavan Biggio’s tenure with the Jays has seen its ups and downs. The 29-year-old infielder appeared in 44 games this season, batting .200 with two home runs and nine RBIs.
Notably, Biggio made his MLB debut in 2019 and has since become a familiar face in the Jays’ lineup. In his rookie year, he impressed with career highs of 16 home runs and 48 RBIs, finishing fifth in the American League Rookie of the Year voting.
