Bomb Threats Lead to Evacuations at Kentucky Schools
LEXINGTON & FRANKFORT, Ky. — On November 21, 2024, schools in central Kentucky faced significant disruptions due to bomb threats that led to evacuations and heightened security measures. Authorities swiftly responded to reported threats at Kentucky State University in Frankfort and Lexington Christian Academy (LCA) in Lexington.
At Kentucky State University, authorities evacuated buildings on the campus as a precautionary measure. Students were temporarily relocated to the stadium while law enforcement, which included dozens of officers, conducted a thorough search of the premises. The all-clear signal was issued around 1 p.m., allowing the campus to reopen safely.
In Lexington, the LCA received a telephoned threat, prompting the evacuation of their entire Rose Campus. Parents were notified, and students were moved to Wellington Elementary for their safety. Confirming the safety of all students, authorities completed a detailed search before giving the all-clear. School officials announced the cancellation of classes at the Rose Campus for the remainder of the day, with plans to resume regular schedules on Friday.
Meanwhile, in Louisville, police dealt with similar incidents at two Catholic high schools, Assumption and Saint Xavier. These were determined to be cases of «swatting» — a hoax that involves making false emergency calls to provoke a police response. The Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) inspected both schools and declared no active threats after investigations. The motives and connections between these incidents remain unclear at this time.
Both the Lexington and Louisville incidents highlight ongoing challenges in addressing such threats and ensuring safety. Authorities are working to determine if there is any connection between the threats made in different locations.
As investigations continue, law enforcement agencies have not released further details regarding the origin of the threats. The incidents underline the importance of preparedness and rapid response in maintaining security at educational institutions.
