Bookmakers Tout Paul Mescal as Growing Contender for James Bond Role
A new favorite has emerged in the race to become the next James Bond, according to bookmakers. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, known for his role in ‘Kraven the Hunter’, remains a top candidate for the iconic 007 role. However, ‘Gladiator II‘ star Paul Mescal is gaining traction among fans and betting odds alike.
Paul Mescal, a 28-year-old Academy Award nominee, has ascended to the Hollywood A-list following his leading role in ‘Gladiator 2’, directed by Ridley Scott. Betting agency Ladbrokes has notably shortened Mescal’s odds from 10-1 to 3-1. Ladbrokes’ Nicola McGeady stated, “Mescalmania is sweeping the nation as ‘Gladiator II’ hits cinemas, challenging Aaron Taylor-Johnson for the next James Bond spot.”
Mescal gained significant attention after his performance in ‘Aftersun‘, earning him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. He has also starred in ‘All of Us Strangers’, ‘Foe’, and ‘Carmen’.
Paul Mescal reportedly fits the criteria set by Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who have expressed interest in casting a male actor nearing his 30s who is not tied to any major franchise. Mescal’s increasing profile and dramatic prowess enhance his legitimacy as a contender.
Nevertheless, the next James Bond film still lacks an actor or a script. While Ladbrokes reports Mescal as a runner-up, a study conducted by Betway Casino reveals that Henry Cavill is still a popular choice among fans. The research, based on online engagement and discussions, places Cavill ahead of potential candidates.
Apart from Mescal and Cavill, several other actors continue to be considered for the role. These include Tom Hardy, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Idris Elba, Callum Turner, and James Norton. As official announcements are awaited, new developments in the hunt for the next Bond continue to intrigue audiences worldwide.
