The Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has vehemently denied the reports claiming that his son, Umara Zulum, was arrested in India for the alleged murder of a foreign national at a nightclub.

Umara occurred while the governors of Adamawa and Yobe states were participating in a post-insurgency workshop in Pakistan.

The news was first reported by SaharaReporters and subsequently caught media attention.

Abdulraman Ahmed Bundi, Zulum’s media aide, dismissed the reports as baseless and stated that Governor Zulum was on a one-month vacation in Saudi Arabia for the 2024 Hajj and later attended the ASUWAN forum conference in Cairo, Egypt.

According to a close source, the incident involving Umara took place at a nightclub in India, where he allegedly engaged in a fight with a Chinese national over a lady, resulting in the fatal incident.

Zulum abruptly canceled his trip to the United States and flew to India upon receiving the news, attempting to mediate with the deceased person’s parents, although the Indian authorities insisted on taking legal action against Umara.

The Nigerian governor’s family’s alleged reckless lifestyle has reportedly been a matter of public knowledge in Borno State.

Recent reports have also claimed that Umara was previously apprehended by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission at the Maiduguri International Airport for carrying excess hard currency.
