Brandon Aiyuk, the wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, has signed a four-year contract extension worth $120 million, according to reports from ESPN and NFL Network released on Thursday.

This contract comes after Aiyuk expressed dissatisfaction with his previous contract situation and publicly requested a trade from the team. His desire for an extension attracted interest from multiple teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers, who were permitted to negotiate a long-term contract with the 26-year-old player.

Aiyuk has long maintained that he deserves enhanced contract security, stating in March that he is «trying to get what I deserve.» His new deal places him alongside Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill in terms of average annual value, each earning $30 million per year, which ranks fifth among NFL receivers.

Previously, Aiyuk was set to earn $14.124 million in 2024 due to the fifth-year team option associated with his rookie contract. In the 2023 season, he led the 49ers with 75 receptions, accumulating 1,342 yards and scoring seven touchdowns across 16 games. His performance earned him second-team All-Pro honors.

The negotiations between Aiyuk and the 49ers appeared tense until recently, with general manager John Lynch indicating the need for resolution by stating, «At some point, you gotta play.» With this new contract finalized, it is anticipated that Aiyuk will participate in the 49ers’ season opener against the New York Jets on September 9.
