Brendan Rodgers Speaks Ahead of Celtic’s Upcoming Match Amid Managerial Speculations
Brendan Rodgers, the manager of Celtic Football Club, addressed the media ahead of his team’s clash on Saturday, amidst ongoing rumors about his future with the club. Notably, Rodgers left Celtic in the middle of the 2018/19 season to join Leicester City, but returned last year and has since been largely forgiven by the club’s supporters.
Currently, speculation surrounds Rodgers once again as West Ham United have been reported to hold an interest in him. This follows a challenging start to the season for their current manager, Julen Lopetegui, who has struggled to achieve favorable results since taking over from David Moyes during the summer. If West Ham’s performance does not improve, they may soon be in the market for a new manager.
Despite the speculations, Rodgers’ recent comments suggest he intends to fulfill his current contract with Celtic. Speaking at a press conference, as covered by various media outlets, Rodgers stated, «What did I say on my first day here? Three years unless I get bumped early! Listen, I said I’d be here for three years. At the end of three years, I’ll have done nearly six years as Celtic manager which is a long time for a Celtic manager. I haven’t really thought about it.»
Rodgers further reflected on his current position, noting, «For near on a year, there was probably more people that wanted me out than in so I’m not going to be talking about new contracts now! I just need to continue to work well, do my very best for the club and I’m pretty sure at some point next season we can see how we’re going and take it from there.»
The manager expressed his contentment, stating, «But at the minute, I love my life here, it’s an amazing club to work in. Funny enough, going away and coming back has made it even better for me because I knew what I missed when I was away. I’m not in a big rush to be leaving again. It’s a great place to be, I love working with the players.»
Rodgers emphasized the value of time, stating, «They say in life, the biggest currency you have is time. As you get to 51 and older, you realise that. Time around people you love, your family, your workplace. And I would have to agree with that. Where I am at the minute, I’m at a brilliant place so we’ll just keep it that way.»
Celtic supporters can take comfort in their team’s current performance, as the club is leading the Scottish Premiership standings and has secured a place in the Scottish League Cup final. Moreover, Rodgers’ team is making strides in the UEFA Champions League, having secured seven points from their first four games. With three winnable matches ahead, they are in a favorable position to advance to the next round of the competition.
