British Girl Group FLO Pays Tribute to Aaliyah at Reading Festival
The British girl group FLO recently performed at the Reading Festival, where they paid tribute to the late singer Aaliyah, known as the ‘Princess of R&B’. During their live set, they creatively integrated a segment from Aaliyah’s iconic song ‘Try Again’ into their performance.
The group made their debut at the BBC Radio One stage, entertaining a lively audience. Despite some microphone issues, FLO, consisting of members Stella, Renée, and Jorja, showcased a selection of nostalgic R&B tracks that have gained popularity on social media platform TikTok.
A notable highlight of their performance was the sultry rendition of their third single ‘Summertime’, where they swapped the original instrumental for the famed production from ‘Try Again’. This dance break was a homage to Aaliyah, who had influenced dance in music prior to her tragic passing in 2001.
FLO has performed this mash-up previously, notably during their first sets earlier this year. They reminded the audience about their upcoming album ‘Access All Areas‘, scheduled for release on November 15 via Warner Music. The group expressed their eagerness to return to their roots before performing their breakthrough single ‘Cardboard Box’.
Fans can pre-order and pre-save the album, with anticipation building after FLO released several singles this year including ‘Caught Up’ and ‘Check’. FLO described ‘Access All Areas’ as a significant project that reflects their growth and commitment to girl group history.
Following their announcement, FLO will be performing at Hackney’s Colour Factory on August 29, with tickets available to those who pre-order a physical album. A general sale will commence the day after.
In earlier reporting by NME, FLO was praised for their precision and artistry during performances, showcasing their understanding of moment and audience engagement.
