Broncos Defense Shines in Preseason Win
DENVER — The Denver Broncos are feeling good after their preseason win against the Green Bay Packers, where they scored 27 points. Their offense is starting to click, but it was the defense that really stole the show.
In a huge 27-2 victory, the Broncos’ defense managed to keep the Packers from scoring a touchdown. The only points Green Bay got were from a safety late in the game. Coach Sean Payton was thrilled with the way his defense handled the game, especially after their strong showing in the previous week’s game against Indianapolis.
Payton noted, «We are just stacking these practices and building confidence.» He highlighted the two significant takeaways the defense made, with players like Keidron Smith snagging another interception and Jonah Elliss contributing with a strip-sack and a fumble recovery.
Elliss has caught Payton’s attention with his energetic play style. Payton stated, «He’s someone that it’s not just one rush plan. He plays with passion.» Other veterans like Zach Allen and Nik Bonitto also made their marks during the game, helping to pressure the Packers and force turnovers.
P.J. Locke, one of the team’s safeties, feels very optimistic about the team’s defense, expressing, «I think we can go as far as we want to go. It’s all about confidence.» The collective drive and positive energy among the players seem to be contributing to their success.
However, it wasn’t all perfect for the Broncos. Coach Payton also pointed out that penalties were an issue, mentioning the 13 penalties for 120 yards that the team committed. He emphasized the need to clean that up before the regular season starts.
Quarterback Jarrett Stidham summed it up perfectly, stating, «Whenever you’re moving the ball well and then you have a penalty that brings it back, it’s hard to overcome that.» It’s clear the Broncos are on a positive path, but they know they have to fine-tune their game as they move closer to the regular season.
