Bryson Daily Leads Army Black Knights into Key Matchup Against Notre Dame
WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army’s assistant head coach for offense, Mike Viti, recalls his first impression of Bryson Daily, a record-setting quarterback for the Black Knights. «It looked like he was in a street fight every time he carried the ball,» noted Viti. Daily, a former track athlete and son of a coach, stood out to Viti as a unique talent with a fighting spirit.
Daily’s journey began at Abernathy High, a small school in western Texas. Under the guidance of his father, Darrell Daily, he excelled not only as a quarterback but also played various positions, including linebacker, kicker, and punter, leading his team to the 3A state semifinals. His versatility extended beyond football; he also played basketball, baseball, and participated in track and field.
This weekend, Daily will lead the unbeaten and No. 19 ranked Army Black Knights against No. 6 Notre Dame in a significant match at Yankee Stadium. This game has national implications with College Football Playoff stakes at play. Despite being two-touchdown underdogs, Daily expressed excitement about the challenge, emphasizing the opportunity it represents for the team.
As a senior captain, Daily has been central to Army’s success, hailing their best start since 1949. His performance includes ranking fifth nationally in rushing yards and second in rushing touchdowns. Daily has achieved these feats through a demanding playing style, not reliant on speed but rather strength and power.
Daily faced adversity this season, missing the Air Force game due to a foot infection but returned to play a crucial role in the victory against North Texas. His resilience and determination have been critical to Army’s success, making him a leader both on and off the field.
Army’s return to its triple-option roots this season has been pivotal, with Daily at the helm, leading the nation in rushing offense. His ability to adapt and excel has been a cornerstone of the team’s success.
Off the field, Daily is an engineering management major and aims to begin his military service in the infantry. He will start his next chapter coaching at the prep school in West Point, aligning his passion for football with his commitment to military service.
