Durban Magistrate’s Court saw the appearance of Grayson Beare, the estranged, adopted son of a prominent businessman, on Tuesday. Beare faces charges related to a fatal knife attack on a family who allegedly supports Palestine. The incident occurred at their Glenmore residence, resulting in the death of a woman and critical injuries to her husband and son.

The court session, overseen by Magistrate Ashwin Singh, saw Beare briefly dressing in shorts and a golf shirt as the prosecution outlined the charges against him. As the adopted son of Julian Beare, the CEO of Beare Holdings, Beare’s case was postponed to June 11 for further investigation into bail and mental assessment.

The prosecutor, Calvin Govender, made it clear that the state was against granting bail to Beare. The tragedy unfolded with paramedics describing the father and son’s condition as critical upon their arrival at the scene. The family involved has chosen to remain unnamed to protect the identity of a minor witness in the case.

A viral video emerged showing Beare admitting to the attack while in custody. In the video, he addressed questions about his motives, stating that the victim was not completely innocent due to her alleged views on the conflict in Israel. Beare confessed to having ties to Israel through family connections and his conflicted relationship with the religion of Zionism.

Following the incident, the South African Jewish Board of Deputies issued a statement expressing outrage at the tragic events. They emphasized the need for a thorough investigation and urged for judicial processes to take their course. The organization called for calm in the community to ensure that justice prevails during this turbulent time.
