California Senate Committee Approves Bill to Restrict Clear’s Airport Security Access
A California Senate committee has advanced a bill aimed at limiting the expansion of Clear‘s airport security service, which allows travelers to bypass TSA lines using biometric data for a fee.
The bill, known as Senate Bill 1372, received bipartisan support and suggests establishing separate security lanes for Clear members.
Clear operates at major airports such as Los Angeles International Airport, San Jose International Airport, San Francisco International Airport, and San Diego International Airport.
The bill’s approval comes after concerns were raised about Clear creating a two-tier system and disrupting the flow at TSA security checkpoints.
Delta Airlines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and Alaska Airlines jointly opposed the bill, citing potential increases in flight costs and limited airport management capabilities.
