Call to Bring Netaji’s Remains Home
Chandra Kumar Bose, the grandnephew of the iconic freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, has made an heartfelt appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, he urged him to bring back the mortal remains of Netaji from the Renkoji temple in Japan.
As the death anniversary of Netaji approaches on August 18, Bose expressed his deep desire for his granduncle’s remains to be returned to India. He described Netaji as a legendary figure whose life and legacy continue to inspire countless people, not just in India, but worldwide.
In his letter, Bose highlighted the extraordinary qualities of Netaji, including his remarkable courage and unwavering dedication to India’s freedom struggle. He reflected on the mysterious circumstances surrounding Netaji’s death in an air crash in August 1945, suggesting that there are still many unanswered questions regarding his fate.
Bose pointed out that after the crash, even close family members like his brother Sarat Chandra Bose and widow Emilie never received confirmation of his death, leading to speculation that he might still be alive. He argued that the numerous accounts and investigations into the incident deserve a final acknowledgment.
Furthermore, he referenced past inquiries into Netaji’s death, including one by the Khosla Commission in 1974, which reaffirmed earlier findings that suggested Netaji had indeed perished. In contrast, he mentioned the Justice Mukherjee Commission’s conclusions, which were dismissed by the government for being based on errors.
Chandra Kumar Bose emphasized the need for the government to declassify files related to Netaji and clarify the narratives surrounding his story. He firmly believed it was time to honor his legacy by bringing his remains back to India, where he was dedicated to liberating the nation.
