Campaigner Allegedly Assaulted Outside Polling Station in Littleborough

A woman campaigning for George Galloway’s Workers Party of Britain reportedly faced an alleged assault outside a polling station in Littleborough this morning. Emergency services were called to Victoria Street, in Littleborough, shortly before 11:30 am due to the incident that occurred near the Littleborough United Reformed Church.

The venue, being utilized as a polling station for today’s General Election in Rochdale, saw the alleged assault on a female campaigner who was reportedly a member of the Workers Party of Britain.

No injuries were reported following the incident, and no arrests have been made, according to sources from Manchester Evening News in Littleborough. Workers Party leader, George Galloway, is standing for re-election in the Rochdale constituency which includes Littleborough.

The party expressed strong concern over the assault, stating that laying hands on a campaigner, especially a woman, is entirely unacceptable. A spokesman for Workers Party of Britain added that they hope the incident is swiftly and thoroughly addressed to ensure campaign safety.

A Greater Manchester Police (GMP) spokesman confirmed the incident, stating that officers responded to reports of an assault on Victoria Street in Littleborough around 11:27 am today. The male alleged to have assaulted the woman campaigning for the Workers Party of Britain, however, no injuries were reported, and no arrests have been made in connection to the assault.
