Campbell Wins Bronze in Weightlifting
Emily Campbell had an amazing moment in her weightlifting career, clinching a bronze medal in the women’s +81kg category. With a joyful cartwheel, she celebrated her achievement and made history as the first weightlifter to win two Olympic medals in over fifty years.
The 30-year-old set a new personal best, lifting a total of 288kg through the snatch and clean-and-jerk disciplines. This impressive performance earned her a spot behind the reigning champion, Li Wenwen, and rising star Hyejeong Park from South Korea.
In her respective lifts, Campbell achieved new personal records of 126kg and 162kg, finishing with a total five kilograms heavier than her silver medal performance in Tokyo last year. It was clear she had trained hard and was eager to showcase her skills.
Li Wenwen secured the gold medal with a total lift of 309kg, which, despite not being her best, comfortably placed her ahead of Park by 10kg. To celebrate her victory, Li playfully lifted her coach on stage, bringing joy to the excited crowd at the South Arena.
