Canucks Trade Podkolzin to Oilers
The Vancouver Canucks have officially traded forward Vasily Podkolzin to the Edmonton Oilers, and it seems like a fresh start is just what he needs.
Podkolzin, a promising talent who was drafted 10th overall in 2019, had a strong rookie season in 2021-22 but struggled to find his form in the following years. The Canucks traded him on Sunday, receiving a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft from Edmonton.
In a message to fans after the trade, Podkolzin expressed gratitude for his time in Vancouver, noting it was a great experience and he appreciated the opportunity to play there. He admitted that the trade was unexpected but understands that such moves are a part of the business.
Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin also thanked Podkolzin for his contributions, recognizing the hard work he put in during his time with the team. Podkolzin’s journey has seen him go through multiple coaches in just three years, which hasn’t made things easy for him.
Over his first three seasons in the NHL, Podkolzin faced ups and downs, including time spent in the AHL to help reshape his game. His early career was filled with potential, but many factors have limited his opportunities to shine.
Despite the challenges, Podkolzin has shown resilience, playing hard for his teammates and the Canucks badge even after facing injuries from hits and fights during games.
With this trade, the Canucks now have a total of seven picks for the upcoming draft, which includes a first, two fourths, and more, as they look to build their roster for the future.
