Cash App customers have some good news! Those affected by recent data breaches might be able to claim over $2,500 each as part of a $15 million class-action settlement.

If you had an account with Cash App from August 23, 2018, to August 20, 2024, and experienced unauthorized access, fraudulent withdrawals, or transfers, you’re eligible to file a claim. This comes after lawsuits claimed that Cash App and its parent company, Block, didn’t do enough to protect users’ accounts.

Remember, this all started when a former employee accessed account information without permission in 2022, followed by unauthorized access in 2023. Customers allege that Cash App failed to put proper controls in place and mishandled complaints about these breaches.

Even though Cash App and Block deny any wrongdoing, the opportunity for customers to claim is here. If you want to file a claim, you can do so online. You’ll need a notice ID and confirmation code from a mailed or emailed notice, but if you didn’t receive one, you can still submit your claim.

The deadline to file a claim is November 18, so don’t wait too long! It’s not clear how much each claimant will get, as the final amount depends on how many people file claims. Affected users can claim up to $2,500 for out-of-pocket losses.

To back up your claim, make sure you have third-party documentation handy. Out-of-pocket expenses might include loss from fraudulent transactions, and there’s even the option to claim for up to three hours of lost time at a rate of $25 per hour.

Customers trying to get their money back need to remember that they’ll also need to submit evidence, like a police report, for transaction loss claims. And if the settlement fund runs low, everyone may end up receiving a smaller payment.
