Casio Crw 001 1jr Ring Watch

Casio has unveiled a novel addition to its product lineup with the introduction of the CRW-001-1JR, a smartwatch that takes the unusual form of a ring. This distinctive device is part of Casio’s commemorations of 50 years in the smartwatch market. However, it is more of a fashion accessory with limited functionality compared to conventional smartwatches.

The CRW-001-1JR is available solely in Japan, retailing at 19,800 yen, which equates to approximately $130 USD, £100, or AU$200. Despite the international interest it is likely to stir, its availability appears restricted to the Japanese market for now, posing challenges for those outside the country wishing to purchase the device.

While the CRW-001-1JR does not offer fitness-tracking capabilities or smartphone notifications, it incorporates several handy features. These include the ability to display time in two different time zones and a built-in stopwatch function. Users can also set alarms, and a small LED light has been integrated for added convenience.

The design of the ring smartwatch pays homage to Casio’s iconic GMW-B5000, recalling its aesthetic with a full-metal, stainless-steel construction. The device, which weighs 16 grams, includes three functional buttons to navigate its features, and it is waterproof for everyday use. Powering the smartwatch is a replaceable battery, expected to last around two years.

While it fits only in a single size equivalent to a US ring size 10.5, Casio provides spacers for those with smaller fingers to ensure a snug fit. The ring’s form factor, created through advanced Metal Injection Molding (MIM) technology, is both intricate and durable, with components molded as a single piece using glass bonding techniques to maintain an airtight structure.

The whimsical and compact timekeeper is set to go on sale in December, and Casio hints that stock may be limited, even within Japan. With its launch, Casio may be spearheading an entirely new category of wearable technology, blending style with the practicality of a mini timekeeping device.
