Celebrating 40 Years of Cinema at Gindou
This year, the Rencontres cinéma de Gindou is celebrating a big milestone – it’s their 40th anniversary! From August 17 to 24, this annual cinema event will showcase 81 films across three exciting sections.
The festival is known for being a non-competitive gathering, featuring daytime screenings at L’Arsenic cinema and nighttime shows under the stars in Gindou’s beautiful amphitheater and nearby villages. This year’s lineup includes a variety of films, ranging from short to full-length and from fiction to documentaries.
One of the highlights is a retrospective dedicated to filmmaker Mathieu Amalric, who is the guest of honor this year. He will present five of his narrative works, including the acclaimed ‘Zorn’ series, and six films in which he acted, like ‘Quantum of Solace’ and ‘The Diving Bell and the Butterfly’. Amalric will be engaging with the audience during screenings and participating in discussions on August 18 and 22.
The event will also feature a special section called ‘L’esprit de la fête’, presenting classic films curated by the CNC and the Cinémathèque de Toulouse. Some notable films include ‘Au feu les pompiers!’ directed by Miloš Forman, ‘La Communion solennelle’ by René Féret, and ‘The Party’ by Blake Edwards.
As for short films, attendees can look forward to titles like ’14 juillet 1953′ by Abel Gance and ‘Cap-Vert, un carnaval dans le Sahel’ by Marah Maldoror.
In addition to these features, the ‘Vagabondages cinématographiques’ section will explore contemporary global cinema, showcasing under-the-radar films and highly anticipated releases like ‘All We Imagine as Light’ by Payal Kapadia.
Festival-goers will also be treated to a selection of films created by students in the Lot region, along with fun activities for kids to learn about Stop Motion and Box Mash-Up techniques.
The Rencontres cinéma de Gindou continues to be a cherished event for cinema lovers, thanks in part to the backing of the CNC.
