Celebrities Encourage Voter Turnout in Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024
In Mumbai, a number of celebrities stepped out early to vote in the Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024. Among them, former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Bollywood actors Akshay Kumar and Rajkummar Rao were notable figures who exercised their democratic rights at polling stations across the city.
Sachin Tendulkar was accompanied by his wife Anjali and daughter Sara to a polling booth in Mumbai, where the family showed off their inked fingers to the media. Tendulkar, who has long been an ambassador for the Election Commission of India, emphasized the importance of voting, stating, «I urge everyone to come out and vote. It is our responsibility.»
Actor Akshay Kumar, after voting, praised the arrangements for senior citizens at the polling stations. «Cleanliness has been maintained. I want everyone to come out and cast their votes,» he urged.
Kartik Aaryan, another Bollywood actor, expressed pride as he voted in Mumbai. Tina Dutta echoed the sentiment, urging citizens to drop their excuses and cast their votes.
Actor and politician Urmila Matondkar took to social media to remind voters of their duty to society, sharing her inked finger and urging citizens to vote «for yourself, your children, your society, and your Maharashtra.»
At Gyan Kendra Secondary School in Mumbai, actor Rajkummar Rao reiterated the importance of voting in a democracy. «It is our right in a democracy, so it’s important we step outside and vote,» he said, encouraging others to follow suit.
Actor Sonu Sood made a similar appeal, stressing it was every citizen’s duty to participate in the election. «It is very important for the country,» he commented.
In Latur, actor couple Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza expressed confidence in their political alliances as they voted. Riteish Deshmukh mentioned his support for the Maha Vikas Aghadi and predicted a favorable outcome for the coalition.
Musician Vishal Dadlani also appealed to people to come out and vote, emphasizing the importance of participation in the electoral process. «If there is love for the state and country, please come and cast your votes,» he urged.
Actor and filmmaker Pooja Bhatt encouraged her followers to make their votes count, while prominent figures such as film directors Kabir Khan and Zoya Akhtar, actors Ali Fazal, John Abraham, and Farhan Akhtar were among those seen exercising their franchise.
The Maharashtra Assembly elections, which are being conducted across 288 constituencies, began at 7 a.m. and will end at 6 p.m. on November 20, 2024. This election sees 4,136 candidates, including 2,086 independents, vying for legislative seats. Voter turnout and political dynamics continue to unfold as the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti alliance seeks to maintain power amid challenges from the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition.
