Champai Soren Joins BJP Amid Concerns of Infiltration in Jharkhand
Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren has announced his decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on August 30, 2024. He revealed his reasoning behind this significant shift in a recent post on social media.
Soren articulated that following a letter he penned to the citizens of India on August 18, he actively engaged with the people of his home state, Jharkhand, to gauge their opinions. He stated that the population of the Kolhan region overwhelmingly supported him and rejected the notion of him taking a political retreat.
Addressing his previous party, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Soren expressed disappointment that there was no platform within the party for him to voice his grievances, especially with senior leaders being sidelined due to health issues.
Furthermore, Soren highlighted concerns regarding Bangladeshi infiltration in the Santhal Pargana region, describing it as a significant threat to the integrity and identity of the indigenous populace. He emphasized that these infiltrators are compromising the lands traditionally held by tribal communities.
He underscored the historical significance of these lands, stating that they were secured through the sacrifices of ancestors who fought against colonial oppression. Soren warned that if unchecked, the presence of illegal immigrants could jeopardize the existence of tribal communities.
In his remarks, Soren declared that the contemporary political climate necessitates a social movement to combat these issues, reinforcing the urgency of addressing the migration problem. He posited that only the BJP takes the matter seriously, contrasting it with other parties that he claimed are only concerned with securing votes.
Champai Soren, who briefly served as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand after Hemant Soren‘s resignation earlier this year, is noted for his longstanding political career and involvement in the Jharkhand statehood movement.
