Championship Managers Face Uncertain Futures in 2024/25 Season
The 2024/25 Championship season has commenced, and several managers are already facing precarious positions within their clubs. While Ryan Lowe, the former Preston boss, has been dismissed, other coaches are likely to follow suit as the campaign progresses.
Just two games into the season, a few managers have already been earmarked for potential exits. Tom Cleverley, a novice manager at Watford, has started brightly but faces job insecurity due to the Pozzo family’s notorious reputation for frequently changing managers.
Millwall‘s Neil Harris, who saved the club from relegation last season, is under scrutiny after the team has struggled defensively despite an attacking approach. Current results, including losses to Watford and Bristol City, could soon put Harris’s position in jeopardy.
At Derby County, Paul Warne finds himself in a difficult spot. Although he led the team back to the Championship, doubts remain about his ability at this level, particularly after a troubled start. If relegation fears grow, Warne could be replaced.
Wayne Rooney, managing Plymouth Argyle, is also under pressure, particularly following a poor performance against Sheffield Wednesday. Despite an improved showing against Hull City, Rooney’s managerial experience is being doubted as his team grapples with a tough season ahead.
On the other hand, Danny Rohl of Sheffield Wednesday has enjoyed a commendable start to the campaign, having led the team to safety last season. However, the recent heavy defeat to Sunderland raised concerns about the team’s stability.
Over at Leeds United, Daniel Farke is dealing with high expectations following last season’s playoff final loss. The team’s struggles to secure new signings after key player departures have only intensified scrutiny of Farke’s management, especially as they chase their first win of the season.
