Change at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam: New Leadership and Quality Assurance for Laddu Prasadam
In a significant shift after the formation of a new government, the governing body of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) has been dissolved. Previously, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) had appointed a comprehensive governing body consisting of 24 members, along with four ex-officio members.
All 24 board members have tendered their resignations, including the chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy. The government has accepted these resignations and is set to appoint a new chairman along with new board members for TTD.
Meanwhile, TTD’s Executive Officer, Shyamala Rao, shared updates regarding the popular Tirumala Srivari Laddu Prasadam. He emphasized that steps have been implemented to enhance both the quality and taste of the beloved laddu. Rao mentioned that the ghee supplier has been warned to ensure high-quality ghee is used, or face strict consequences for any violations.
The quality of the Tirumala Srivari Laddu Prasadam is a focal point, with experts asserting that improving the ghee quality will directly influence the laddu’s overall quality. However, Rao noted that TTD currently lacks testing equipment but plans to establish it soon.
Addressing challenges in procuring raw materials, Rao revealed that a committee of dairy experts has been formed. This committee includes Dr Mahadevan from Bangalore, a retired professor from NDRA, Dr Surendranath, Dr Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy from Hyderabad, and Professor Swarna Lathalu. They are tasked with assessing the ghee quality and will issue their reports shortly.
The committee aims to ensure that the ghee used in the laddu prasadam has a pleasing aroma and adheres to high standards. Rao has also communicated directly with ghee suppliers, urging them to furnish only quality products.
It has come to light that while some companies supply quality ghee, others have been providing substandard products. Recent NABL testing revealed that one supplier was delivering adulterated ghee mixed with vegetable fat.
As a result, samples from the five ghee suppliers were sent for testing. One supplier failed to meet the quality standards and has since been blacklisted due to rule violations. Additionally, two other companies have received show cause notices for their practices. Rao reaffirmed that there will be no compromises regarding the quality of Tirumala Srivari Laddu Prasadam.
