Chelsea Signs French Forward Sandy Baltimore from PSG
Chelsea Football Club has secured a major signing with the acquisition of French forward Sandy Baltimore from Paris Saint-Germain, as newly appointed head coach Sonia Bompastor continues to reshape the squad following the departure of Emma Hayes.
The 24-year-old Baltimore has signed a four-year contract with Chelsea, marking her transition after spending nine successful seasons at Paris Saint-Germain, where she made over 200 appearances for the French club.
‘I’m very happy to join Chelsea. It feels incredible. I have always wanted to play for Chelsea and now look, it has happened,’ expressed Baltimore upon confirming her move.
Chelsea’s general manager Paul Green expressed his satisfaction with the addition of Baltimore, stating, ‘Sandy is an exciting wide player who will give more balance to the squad, adding another naturally left-footed player.’
Baltimore, a versatile attacker comfortable in various roles in the attacking midfield and on the wings, brings a wealth of experience from her time in France, including UEFA Women’s Champions League exposure and domestic successes.
The French international, who has 28 caps for her national team, was named the Young Player of the Season at the D1 Arkema awards in the 2020/21 season, capping off a remarkable year where she helped PSG secure their first league title.
Joining a formidable forward lineup at Chelsea that includes the likes of Catarina Macario, Mayra Ramírez, Aggie Beever-Jones, Maika Hamano, Sam Kerr, and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd, Baltimore adds further depth and competition to the squad under Bompastor’s guidance.
In related news, Aston Villa forward Alisha Lehmann has opted for a move to Juventus, signing a three-year deal with the Serie A club. The Switzerland international, who made 74 appearances for Villa and scored 14 goals during her tenure, will now embark on a new chapter in Italy.
