Chris Boswell Earns AFC Special Teams Player of the Week After Stellar Performance
In the National Football League (NFL), Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his outstanding performance in Week 11. Boswell’s exceptional display came during the Steelers’ 18-16 victory over the Baltimore Ravens, where he secured all of his team’s points through a perfect 6-for-6 from field goals.
Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin praised Boswell, highlighting his critical role in the team’s latest win. During a press conference, Tomlin stated, «What can you say about Chris Boswell in 2024 that hadn’t been written or said. He’s been everything that we need him to be. He is performing at an extremely high level and we’re extremely comfortable in calling upon him in just about any circumstances.»
Boswell’s field goals varied in distance, demonstrating his impressive range and accuracy. He successfully kicked from 32, 52, 32, 57, 27, and 50 yards. His ability to adapt to a change in holders, due to the injury of the primary punter Cameron Johnston, was also noted by the head coach. Tomlin expressed how Boswell’s performance under such circumstances was «doubly impressive.»
Related to Boswell’s performance was punter Corliss Waitman, who took over the role of holder. Tomlin acknowledged Waitman’s contribution, remarking that Waitman’s prior experience holding for Boswell was a decisive factor in his selection as the new punter. «He’s done an awesome job for us,» Tomlin said. Waitman was instrumental in the game, with all four of his punts traveling over 50 yards.
Nevertheless, Boswell remains modest about his achievements. He stated postgame, «I’m just here to do my job, and we needed six today. We didn’t need any last week. As long as we get the (win), who cares about the rest?»
This recognition is not new for Boswell, who also earned the title of AFC Special Teams Player of the Week in both Week 1 of the current season and previous seasons. His consistency is illustrated by his statistics, having connected on 29 of 30 field goal attempts this season and maintaining a record of 260-295 since joining the Steelers in 2015.
Quarterback Russell Wilson praised Boswell’s work ethic and composure under pressure. «He works at it. There’s no surprise,» Wilson commented. «It’s not shocking because he works at it every day, and he loves it, and he’s a great teammate, he’s a great leader. He’s composed. He’s confident. He’s everything you want him to be.»
