Chris Smalling Joins Al Fayha from Roma
Former defender Chris Smalling has officially signed with Saudi Arabian club Al Fayha, transitioning from his previous team, Roma. The 34-year-old athlete has secured a two-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2026.
Smalling enjoyed a fruitful five seasons at Roma, where he made a total of 155 appearances and netted 10 goals. While he has been included in each of Roma’s matchday squads this season, he has yet to make a competitive appearance and was an unused substitute in the recent 0-0 draw against his former club.
Initially, Smalling joined Roma on a loan agreement back in 2019 from Manchester United, and he made his move permanent the following year. His tenure at Roma was highlighted by his participation in the 2022 Conference League final, where the team triumphed over Feyenoord, and the subsequent Europa League final, which saw the club defeated in a penalty shootout.
Prior to his time at Roma, Smalling had a significant career at Manchester United, where he made 323 first-team appearances and secured eight major trophies, including two Premier League titles. His international experience includes 31 caps for the England national team.
Smalling began his professional career at non-league Maidstone United, later joining Fulham in 2008 before making a move to Manchester United in 2010.
