Cincinnati Police Captain Under Investigation for Alleged Off-Duty Assault
A high-ranking officer of the Cincinnati Police Department is currently under investigation following allegations of involvement in an assault last month. Captain Brian Norris is the subject of both a criminal and internal investigation, according to reports. The incident in question reportedly took place on October 24 near Washington Park.
WLWT News, through a public records request, revealed that officers were called to Washington Park shortly before 10 p.m. after receiving reports of a man choking a woman. Video evidence captured the altercation, with a woman heard yelling for help as witnesses intervened.
Records confirm that Norris, identified at the scene, refused to answer questions about the incident. In response, the Cincinnati Police Department has initiated an internal investigation, with Chief Teresa Theetge and the City of Cincinnati Law Department involving an outside prosecutor’s office to ensure an unbiased inquiry. No charges have been filed at this time.
The alleged victim has expressed reluctance to discuss the incident with officers using body-worn cameras, citing that «he is CPD.» Reports also indicate she downplayed the event as a misunderstanding during a family dispute.
Union President Ken Kober emphasized Norris’s rights, remarking, «It’s concerning, but we should wait to pass judgment until the investigation is complete.» Stewart Isaacs, president of the Sentinels Police Association, echoed this sentiment, advocating for due process.
The case has drawn considerable attention as Norris holds a significant position within the department and the Sentinels Police Association, noted for advocating for Black officers. With his over 30 years of service, Norris’s case continues to unfold amid calls for transparency and accountability within the force.
