Cincinnati Reds and Kansas City Royals Finalize Trade Featuring Jonathan India and Brady Singer
The Cincinnati Reds and Kansas City Royals have successfully completed a trade deal involving notable players Jonathan India and Brady Singer. The deal, which had been the subject of speculation for several days, was finalized ahead of the MLB non-tender deadline.
Jonathan India, formerly with the Reds, will now join the Kansas City Royals. India, who won the National League Rookie of the Year Award in 2021, was considered an integral part of the Reds’ team. However, this is not the first time India found himself amidst trade rumors, as similar discussions arose during the previous off-season.
In exchange for India, the Reds have acquired right-handed pitcher Brady Singer from the Royals. Singer, who produced a record of 9 wins and 13 losses with a 3.71 ERA in 32 starts last season, will bolster the Reds’ starting rotation. The Reds’ rotation had been left thin with Brandon Williamson and Julian Aguiar set to miss the 2025 season.
Another player involved in this transaction is Joey Wiemer, a product of the University of Cincinnati. Wiemer, who was originally acquired by the Reds in a midseason trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, is also heading to Kansas City. Wiemer made brief appearances in the major league last season and showed potential despite spending most of the time with Triple-A Louisville.
The trade was met with mixed emotions from Reds’ supporters who considered India a fan favorite. India’s position at second base is likely to be taken over by Matt McLain, who missed the previous season due to a shoulder injury.
This trade comes at a strategic time for both teams as they prepare to bolster their rosters for the upcoming season, aligning with organizational needs and future goals.
