Clemson Tigers Set to Host Rival South Carolina Gamecocks in Women’s Basketball Clash
The Clemson Tigers women’s basketball team is set to host the South Carolina Gamecocks in a highly anticipated matchup on Wednesday, November 20, at Littlejohn Coliseum in Clemson, South Carolina. The annual Palmetto Series, backed by the South Carolina Education Lottery, tips off at 5:00 p.m., and will be broadcast on ESPN2 with commentary from Courtney Lyle and Carolyn Peck. Additionally, radio coverage will be available on 105.5 The Roar and the Clemson Tigers app with William Qualkinbush and Faxon Childress providing the call.
Currently boasting a 3-0 record for the season, the Clemson Tigers are riding high following an 81-33 triumph over Presbyterian. Notably, the Tigers’ defense has been formidable, ranking within the top ten nationally across several categories, including scoring defense and field goal defense. On the offensive front, standout Loyal McQueen has spearheaded the team, averaging 17.3 points per game. Team newcomer Mia Moore is also showing impressive form, contributing approximately 12 points and over eight rebounds per game.
Conversely, the South Carolina Gamecocks hold a 4-0 record, coming off a dominant 95-44 win against East Carolina. This match marks the first encounter between Shawn Poppie’s Clemson and the top-ranked South Carolina team led by coach Dawn Staley. The Gamecocks are eyeing their 43rd consecutive win to break their own record for the longest win streak in the program’s history, which stands at 42.
South Carolina is expected to have a full roster available for the first time this season, including Tessa Johnson, who is set to return after an ankle injury. Meanwhile, Raven Johnson is aiming to recover her form following a challenging start to the season. Staley has expressed the importance of this game ahead of their upcoming road trip to UCLA.
The Gamecocks have historically dominated their series against Clemson, with a 13-game winning streak dating back to 2010. Despite Clemson’s fresh roster and coaching staff, Staley anticipates a strategic game aiming to exploit their three-point shooting capabilities and strong defensive play.
