Cleveland Cavaliers’ Sam Merrill Faces Day-to-Day Status Due to Ankle Injury
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been managing a series of injuries despite their strong start to the season. Head coach Kenny Atkinson recently provided an update on key bench player Sam Merrill, who has been sidelined by a left ankle injury. Atkinson shared that Merrill is currently «day-to-day,» expressing hope for a swift return.
«He’s still a little sore,» Atkinson stated ahead of Sunday’s game against the Charlotte Hornets when discussing Merrill’s condition. «But again, I don’t see this as a long-term thing. But he’s just trying to get the ankle right.»
Merrill, known for his sharpshooting abilities, has been a significant asset for the Cavaliers off the bench. His absence marks three consecutive games missed, prompting other players to step up in his stead. Despite this, the Cavs have maintained an undefeated record.
The Cavaliers are anticipated to field a competitive team in their upcoming game against the Boston Celtics. It remains uncertain whether Merrill will be available for the match, but his return would be a substantial boost to the team’s three-point offense.
Even without Merrill, the Cavaliers have demonstrated considerable depth. Players like Darius Garland, Isaac Okoro, Caris LeVert, and Georges Niang have all made noteworthy contributions from beyond the arc in recent games. «We have great depth,» Atkinson remarked. «I’m not sure every team can do this. We’re lucky. It’s been proven so far.»
Evan Mobley, who missed a previous game due to illness, is set to return, which will undoubtedly strengthen the team as they aim to extend their winning streak and solidify their place in NBA history.
The Cavaliers, poised to match historical feats with their performance, look forward to incorporating Merrill back into their roster as they continue their pursuit of success.
