Cold Front Brings Rain and Temperature Drop to Southeast U.S.
A strong cold front is poised to bring significant changes to the weather across the Southeast this week, with rain, gusty winds, and the coldest temperatures recorded so far this autumn. According to Jeremy Nelson, Chief Meteorologist at WJCL 22 News, the first effects will be felt on Tuesday afternoon as rain showers develop ahead of the advancing front.
«A few downpours are possible as the rain pushes through Tuesday evening, continuing into Tuesday night,» stated Nelson. Rainfall accumulations are expected to range from 0.25 to 0.75 inches across most areas, although some locations could exceed these amounts if heavier bands of rain develop.
The main cold front is scheduled to pass through late Wednesday, bringing with it gusty winds of 25-35 mph or more, particularly affecting Southeast Georgia and the Lowcountry. These breezy conditions are expected to persist into Thursday, as temperatures begin to plummet in the aftermath of the front’s passage.
Forecasts predict a noticeable drop in temperatures with highs ranging from the upper 50s to low 60s from Thursday through Saturday. Residents around Savannah should prepare for morning lows in the 40s, with further drops into the upper 30s possible inland by Saturday morning, marking the chilliest spell so far this season.
In North Georgia, the impact of the cold front will mirror similar weather patterns, as noted by a FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY announcement for rain on Tuesday. As reported by Atlanta News First, the approaching front is expected to introduce rain overnight, affecting Tuesday’s morning commute. Although severe weather or flooding is not anticipated, the rain will impact travel.
The cold front will reach North Georgia by Wednesday, steadily dropping temperatures from a high near 70 degrees in the afternoon to the 50s in the evening. Wind gusts may reach speeds of up to 45 mph. By Thursday, temperatures are predicted to remain in the low 40s in the mountain areas and the low 50s in metropolitan regions, with Friday morning lows potentially ranging from the upper 20s to low 30s.
