Columbus Crew Stuns Inter Miami in Leagues Cup
The Columbus Crew pulled off an amazing comeback against Inter Miami in the Leagues Cup on Tuesday night. After falling behind 2-0, the Crew turned things around in spectacular fashion, scoring three goals in just 14 minutes to win the match 3-2.
It was a thrilling contest between two top teams in Major League Soccer, with the match taking place at Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio. The Crew was without standout player Lionel Messi, who has been absent due to injury. Despite this, the defending champions showed their fighting spirit.
Christian Ramirez got things started for the Crew when he scored in the 67th minute, bringing the score to 2-1. Just a couple of minutes later, Diego Rossi followed up with a brilliant second goal, leveling the game at 2-2.
Rossi wasn’t done yet; he netted his second goal of the night in the 80th minute, securing a stunning lead for the Crew at 3-2. “It’s been a long moment that we haven’t had a situation like this,” said Crew coach Wilfried Nancy. “After that, if the team is better than us or they score more goals, no problem. But the spirit, we don’t quit.”
Inter Miami, on the other hand, had a strong first half. Matias Rojas opened the scoring with a header in the 10th minute, and Diego Gomez doubled the lead in the 62nd minute. But it all fell apart in the final 15 minutes of the game.
Inter Miami still sits atop the MLS Eastern Conference despite this loss, leading by 10 points over the third-place Crew. Coach Tata Martino expressed his disappointment in the outcome, noting that his team played exceptionally well for most of the match.
This defeat means Inter Miami is out of the Leagues Cup and will now focus on the regular season, hoping for Messi’s return soon. Meanwhile, the Crew is set to face New York City FC in the quarterfinals later this week, aiming to keep their championship hopes alive.
