Congress Announces Candidates for Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections
The Congress party has released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, which will take place in three phases. The announcement was made on Monday and includes nine candidates.
Among the notable candidates are party general secretary Gulam Ahmed Mir, who will contest from Doru, and former state unit president Vikar Rasool Wani, who has been nominated from Banihal. This list comes after a seat-sharing agreement was reached with the National Conference, marking a significant step in their electoral strategy.
As per the seat-sharing formula, the National Conference will contest 51 seats while Congress will contest 32 seats. Moreover, one seat each has been allotted to the Marxist Communists and Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party. Both parties have also agreed to engage in friendly contests in five particular seats.
In the first phase of the assembly elections, voting is scheduled for September 18, with the second and third phases set for September 25 and October 1, respectively. The vote counting will be carried out on October 4.
