Consumers Energy Postpones System Upgrade Amid Severe Weather Concerns
Consumers Energy has announced a postponement of its planned upgrade to its electric outage notification system due to anticipated severe weather conditions in Michigan. The upgrade, originally scheduled to take place from 7 p.m. on Monday, November 18, until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, has been deferred, with a new implementation date to be communicated in the future.
The decision to reschedule comes in response to forecasts predicting adverse weather conditions overnight and into the following morning across parts of Michigan. This has raised concerns among Consumers Energy officials over potential increased power outages, necessitating the full availability of their current outage systems to assist affected customers effectively.
During the scheduled upgrade period, customers would not have had access to the company’s online outage map or been able to receive outage notifications. Instead, they were advised to contact Consumers Energy directly at 800-477-5050 for assistance should they experience a loss of power or encounter other issues during that time.
Consumers Energy Vice President and Chief Digital Officer, Aaron Rajda, stated, «We want to thank our customers in advance for their patience. This upgrade will help us create a better system that continues to provide real-time information to the public 24/7/365.» Rajda emphasized that the upgrade is essential to enhance the reliability and responsiveness of the company’s systems in communicating real-time outage information.
Consumers Energy, headquartered in Jackson, Michigan, is a major utility provider in the region, and any disruptions or planned maintenance in their systems are of significant interest to the local community, necessitating clear communication and contingency planning.
