CONTRALESA Urges Political Parties to Accept Election Outcome
The Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa (CONTRALESA) has issued a statement urging all political parties that participated in the recent national elections to accept the final outcome. The call for acceptance comes as vote counting progresses, with approximately 11% of the ballots tallied. Chief Lameck Mokoena, the president of CONTRALESA, also emphasized the importance of transparency on the part of the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) to avoid potential disputes.
Mokoena emphasized, «Leaders of various political parties campaigned tirelessly across the nation, seeking the support of voters. The South African electorate exercised their democratic rights by casting their votes. Now, it is imperative for the IEC to uphold transparency in the process to preempt any disagreements among political entities.»
He further stated, «CONTRALESA appeals to all political organizations to graciously acknowledge the election results. In case of any contentions, let them be addressed peacefully and constructively, without resorting to violence. CONTRALESA commends the efforts of all political parties for their active engagement during the electoral campaign.»
In KwaZulu-Natal, initial results indicate that the Mazibuye Kuzoba Mnandi (MK) party is currently leading with 38.36% of the counted votes, followed by the African National Congress (ANC) at 32.32% and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) with 15.81%. Several polling stations in the region experienced long queues even after the official closing time at 9 o’clock last night.
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in KwaZulu-Natal is expected to provide an official update on the election process at midday today, shedding more light on the evolving results and voter turnout. As the counting continues, all eyes are on KwaZulu-Natal to see how the final percentages and seat allocations will shape the political landscape in the province.
