Controversy erupted during the recent clash between Hawthorn and Richmond on Easter Monday, as questions were raised about the umpiring decisions revolving around Hawthorn’s young talent, Jack Ginnivan.

Ginnivan, a former Collingwood player who switched to Hawthorn during the off-season, found himself in the midst of numerous contentious incidents throughout the game.

Despite a solid performance with two scoring shots and 11 disposals, Ginnivan was involved in several high contact incidents that went unnoticed by the umpires.

Legendary player Tony Shaw expressed his concerns, suggesting that the AFL needed to address the way Ginnivan is officiated on the field.

Both Shaw and commentator Matthew Richardson highlighted Ginnivan’s tendency to duck into tackles, possibly influencing the umpires’ decisions during the match.

While acknowledging Ginnivan’s past actions, Shaw stressed that there were instances where the young forward should have been rightfully awarded free kicks.

Commentator Anthony Hudson added a different perspective, indicating that the uncertainty around Ginnivan’s playing style might be contributing to the lack of calls in his favor.

The discussion continued during the broadcast, with AFL great Brian Taylor openly criticizing the umpires for their handling of Ginnivan’s challenges.

Former Hawthorn star Luke Hodge joined in, urging the umpires to review the incidents and ensure that fair decisions are made moving forward.
