Country Star Jelly Roll Discusses His Struggles and Successes in Weight Loss Journey
The country music artist known as Jelly Roll has shared insights into his significant weight loss journey and lifestyle transformation over the past year. The artist, born Jason Bradley DeFord, spoke candidly with PEOPLE magazine about his struggles with food addiction and his path to shedding 110 pounds since the beginning of the year.
In his conversation with the magazine, Jelly Roll emphasized the mental challenges he faced in altering his relationship with food. «The battle was with the food addiction, changing the way I’ve looked at food for the last 39 years,» he explained. «Once you get into that discipline and commitment, it’s like an avalanche.»
Jelly Roll’s current fitness regimen began in August and includes playing basketball daily while on tour. The musician, who is also a Grammy nominee, noted the stark differences in culture on his tours now compared to earlier: «It revolved around alcohol and drugs… now our tour culture is around good eating and around exercising,» he stated.
Growing up in Antioch, Tennessee, Jelly Roll attributed his early struggles with food addiction to the environment in his childhood home. «Nobody in my house ever had a healthy relationship with food,» he acknowledged.
Adding to his fitness goals, Jelly Roll began training for a 5K race in January, a milestone he reached by May. He elaborated on his new daily routine which includes exercising four to six days a week, sauna sessions, and cold plunges.
The artist’s commitment to his health extends beyond physical activity. In his effort to maintain a healthy lifestyle, he has enlisted the help of nutrition coach Ian Larios. «He just surpassed his 100-pound weight loss,» Larios remarked, highlighting Jelly Roll’s achievements.
Despite past addictions, Jelly Roll’s journey has also been a battle against self-doubt and body insecurities. He was compelled to face these demons, which he shared with his fans to hold himself accountable.
The transformation has been not only physical but also a journey of mental resilience. «The weight, for me, right now, it’s the mountain in front of me,» Jelly Roll expressed in a recent interview, voicing his ongoing efforts to overcome his existing food addiction.
The artist credits his support system in assisting him through these changes, admitting that following simple wellness advice, like spending time outdoors, has had a positive effect. «I started walking around in the sun and drinking water. I’m like, ‘Dude, I feel so much better!'»
