Dallas Cowboys Cornerback Injury News

ARLINGTON, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys will be without their All-Pro cornerback, reaching a significant setback as he faces a recovery period of 6-8 weeks due to a stress fracture in his left foot.

If all goes according to plan, he may make his return by mid-October, potentially missing the first five or six games of the regular season. The Cowboys are scheduled for their bye week on October 20, allowing a timeline for his return.

The cornerback is set to undergo surgery on his fifth metatarsal after reporting pain following the team’s final practice in Oxnard, California. Last season, he led the NFL with nine interceptions and achieved a league record with five returns for touchdowns, earning both Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors.

Jerry Jones, the owner and general manager of the Cowboys, expressed optimism about the situation on the 105.3 The Fan in Dallas pregame show, noting that the player would be available for the crucial games later in the season. Jones emphasized that despite this loss, the Cowboys are well-prepared at cornerback due to the talent of their younger players.

Jones stated, “Our secondary is outstanding in personnel,” highlighting the abilities of existing players including fellow cornerback Trevon Diggs, who is expected to return for the season opener after missing the last 15 games due to a torn ACL in his left knee.

In Bland’s absence, the Cowboys will depend on Diggs and other capable players such as Jordan Lewis, who has shown strength during the camp, alongside potential contributions from fifth-round pick Caelan Carson or Andrew Booth, acquired from the Minnesota Vikings during training camp.

The loss of Bland poses a challenge for new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, who was counting on the dynamic duo of Diggs and Bland, both recognized for their ability to intercept the ball effectively. With 14 interceptions in two seasons, Bland complemented Diggs, who leads the league with 18 interceptions.

This injury marks the second significant loss for the Cowboys’ defense in recent training times, as they also lost pass rusher Odighizuwa to a season-ending torn ACL.
