Cowboys Kicker Brandon Aubrey Struggles at Northwest Stadium Against Washington Commanders
Brandon Aubrey, the Dallas Cowboys‘ All-Pro kicker, faced a challenging game against the Washington Commanders at Northwest Stadium, as his struggles in the venue continued. Aubrey had two field goal attempts that did not go as planned during Sunday’s game. His first field goal attempt was blocked by the Commanders, while his second attempt hit the right upright, resulting in a miss.
These difficulties added to a troubling trend for Aubrey at Northwest Stadium, where he is now 1-for-5 on field goals over his first two seasons. Notably, Aubrey’s first career field goal miss also occurred at this stadium during the Cowboys’ Week 18 victory over the Commanders last season.
Despite these setbacks, Aubrey continues to maintain an impressive overall performance this season. He has successfully converted 23 out of 28 field goal attempts in 2024, with 10 of those being from at least 50 yards—making him the second-most successful kicker for long-distance field goals in the league, trailing only another kicker with 11 such field goals.
However, his recent performances reflect a concerning pattern, as this marks the second consecutive week Aubrey has missed field goals, following a miss against the Houston Texans when his plant foot slipped. Aubrey, who set a record with 35 consecutive field goals to start his career, still holds the record for most 50-yard field goals in team history.
While Aubrey’s personal stats showcase his skill, the Cowboys’ overall field goal operation has come under scrutiny. According to reports, issues with blocked kicks and general protection failures have rendered their kicking operation problematic, which could impede Aubrey’s performance if not addressed soon.
