Two people are reported dead following a serious car crash that happened during a police chase. Although media sources are spreading the news, the police have yet to confirm the exact number of victims.

Eyewitnesses took to social media to share their accounts of the accident. Some reported that the crash occurred while a police pursuit was taking place. A driver of a Tesla even posted a video capturing a car speeding past him in the wrong direction just moments before the collision happened.

Thanks to quick reflexes, the Tesla driver managed to avoid the oncoming vehicle, which added to the dramatic nature of the scene. Meanwhile, the investigation into the collision has been handed over to the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI).

The Sûreté du Québec was unable to provide any additional information when approached for comments on the situation. As the evening progressed, the Ministry of Transportation kept its warning in place for the closure of Highway 40 between Saint-Cuthbert and Maskinongé, heading eastwards.

Drivers are currently being diverted onto Route 138, though they are unsure how long this detour will last.
